  Abstract Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate acute and subacute toxicity and sarcoma-180 anti-cancer effects of herbal acupuncture with cultivated wild ginseng (distilled) in mice and rats. Method : Balb/c mice were injected intravenous with cultivated wild ginseng herbal acupuncture for and acute toxicity test. Sprague-Dawley rats were injected intravenous with cultivated wild ginseng herbal acupuncture for subacute toxicity test. The cultivated wild ginseng herbal-acupuncture was injected at the tail vein of mice. Results : 1. In acute toxicity test, there was no mortality thus unable to attain the value. 2. Examining the toxic response in the acute toxicity test, there was no sign of toxication. 3. In acute toxic test, running biochemical serum test couldn't yield any differences between the control and experiment groups. 4. In subacute toxicity test, there was no sign of toxication in the experimental groups and didn't show any changes in weight compared to the normal group. 5. In subacute toxicity test, biochemical serum test showed significant increase of Total albumin, Albumin, and Glucose in the experimental group I compared with the control group. Significant decrease of GOT, ALP, GPT, and Triglyceride were shown. In experiment group II, only Glucose showed significant increase compared with the control group. 6. Measuring survival rate for anti-cancer effects of Sarcoma-180 cancer cell line, all the experimental groups showed significant increase in survival rate. 7. Measuring NK cell activity rate, no significant difference was shown throughout the groups. 8. Measuring Interleukin-2 productivity rate, all the experimental groups didn't show significant difference. 9. For manifestation of cytokine mRNA, significant decrease of interleukin-10 was witnessed in the experimental group compared to the control group. Conclusion : According to the results, we can conclude cultivated wild ginseng herbal acupuncture caused negligible toxicity, and had anti-tumor effects in mice.

  Abstract Objective : We carried out this experimental study in order to investigate the effect of Chaenomelis Fructus(木瓜) extract and herbal-acupuncture on the arthritis induced by injecting Freund's complete adjuvant Method : 1. We categorized SD-rats into five groups as followings. (1) Control: Without any Treat (2) Treat I: treated by acupuncture (3) Treat II: treated by drinking 5% saline (4) Treat III: treated by drinking Chaenomelis Fructus(木瓜) extract (5) Treat IV: treated by Chaenomelis Fructus(木瓜) herbal-acupuncture 2. We established ten items for decision of experimental results as followings Edema rate, Pain endurance, WBC, Hemoglobin, Platelet, Total protein, Albumin, Globulin, RA factor, CRP Results : The groups that showed significant effects compared with Contol group were explained as followings. 1. Edema rate : Treat I , Treat III 2. Pain endurance : Treat I, Treat IV 3. WBC : Treat IV 4. Hemoglobin : Treat III 5. Plat99elet : Treat IV 6. Total protein : Treat I, Treat IV 7. Albumin : None 8. Globulin : Treat I, Treat IV 9. RA factor : Treat I, Treat IV 10. CRP : Treat IV Conclusion : Observing above experimental results, we can guess that the effects of acupuncture and Chaenomelis Fructus(木瓜) herbal-acupuncture on Freund's adjuvant arthritis are more superior than other ways. In addition, we can find that the latter is more better than the former in effect by two items(platelet, CRP).

  Abstract Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Bee Venom on the lipopolysaccharide(LPS), sodium nitroprusside(SNP), hydrogen peroxide-induced expression inducilble nitric oxide synthetase(iNOS), tumor necrosis factor-(TNF-) and nuclear factor kappa B(NF-kB) in RAW 264.7 cells, a murine macrophage cell line. Method : The expressions of expression iNOS and TNF- were determined by western blotting with corresponding antibodies. The expressions of expression NF-kB was assayed by EMSA method. Results : 1. The 0.5, 1 and of bee venom on LPS-induced expression of iNOS, the of bee venom on SNP-induced expression of iNOS and the of bee venom on -induced expression of iNOS compared with control were inhibited significantly. 2. The 0.5, 1 and of bee venom inhibited significantly LPS and -induced expression of TNF- compared with control, respectively. The of bee venom increased significantly SNP-induced expression of TNF- compared with control. 3. The of bee venom on LPS-induced expression of NF-kB, the of bee venom on SNP-induced expression of NF-kB and the 0.5, of bee venom on -induced expression of NF-kB were inhibited significantly compared with control, respectively.

  Abstract Objective : This study was carried out to systemically investigate the effect of Joongwan(中脘; CV12) acupuncture in cerebrum and cerebellum of indomethacin-induced gastrointestinal disease in SD-rats. Method : 1. We induced gastrointestinal disease by indomethacin oral administration in SD-rats. 2. We selected Joongwan(中脘; CV12) acupuncture point that generally have been used to treat gastrointestinal disease. 3. We categorized SD-rats into three groups as followings. (1) Normal group : The group without any management (2) Control group : The group with indomethacin-induced gastrointestinal disease (3) Treated group : The group that Joongwan(中脘; CV12) acupuncture was performed after inducing gastrointestinal disease 4. We figured out the effect of acupuncture by analyzing staining degree of NADPH-diaphorase in cerebrum and cerebellum. Results : 1. Cerebrum (1) Normal group : The degree of staining was very low. (2) Control group : NADPH-diaphorase was mainly stained in cerebral cortex and the stained region was wider than Normal group. (3) Treated group : The degree and region of staining was higher and wider than the other goups. Sometimes the intensively stained regions were observed. 2. Cerebellum In both cases of Control group and Treated group, the regions in cortex were stained mainly. But, between Control group and Treated group, there was no remarkable difference. Conclusion : In case of cerebellum, there was no remarkable result. On the other hand, in case of cerebrum, there were certain differences among three groups. Through those results, we could conclude that Joongwan(中脘; CV12) acupuncture treatment was able to affect NADPH-diaphorase expression in the cerebrum of SD-rats that have gastrointestinal disease with indomethacin-inducing.

The 0.5, 1 and of bee venom inhibited significantly LPS, SNP and -induced expression of p38 compared with control, respectively. 3. The 1 and of bee venom inhibited significantly SNP-induced expression of JNK compared with control, respectively. All of bee venom inhibited insignificantly LPS and -induced expression of JNK compared with control, respectively. 4. The of bee venom inhibited significantly SNP-induced expression of ERK, the of bee venom increased significantly -induced expression of ERK compared with control. The 0.5, 1 and of bee venom inhibited insignificantly LPS-induced expression of ERK compared with control, respectively.

  Abstract Objective : This study was carried to make out the connection between cerebral artery blood flow velocity and ischemic theory that presumed the cause of Bell's palsy. Method : We measured cerebral artery blood flow velocity each external carotid artery, internal carotid artery, common carotid artery, siphon, superficial temporal artery by TCD to 20 patients who diagnosed as facial nerve palsy from march 2001 to July 2001 and all objectives devided two groups as palsy side. A group is right side facial nerve palsy and B group is left facial nerve palsy. Results : 1. There is no effective change of blood flow in external carotid artery either A, B group. 2. There is no effective change of blood flow in internal carotid artery either A, B group. 3. There is no effective change of blood flow in common carotid artery either A, B group. 4. There is no effective change of blood flow in siphon artery either A, B group. 5. There is no effective change of blood flow in superficial temporal artery either A, B group.

  Abstract Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the stability of bee venom according to the keeping method and period. Method : The author observed microbial contamination of bee venom in nutrient agar, broth, YPD agar and YPD media and antibacterial activity for S. aureus, E. coli manufactured 12, 6 and 3 months ago as the two type of room temperature and cold storage. Results : 1. 1:3,000 and 1:4,000 diluted bee venom solution did not show microbial contamination both room temperature and cold storage within twelve months. 2. There was antibacterial activity of diluted bee venom for S. aureus in cold storage within twelve months and there was no antibacterial activity of diluted bee venom for S. aureus in twelve months, room temperature storage. 3. We could not observe the zone of inhibition around paper disc of all for E.coli. in 1:3,000, 1:30,000 and 1:3,000,000 diluted bee venom solution, respectively. According to results, we expect that diluted bee venom solution is stable both cold and room temperature storage within twelve months.

  Abstract Results : 1. Vermilionum is made from the mixture of mercury and sulfur, resulting in reddish mercuric sulfide(Hg2S). 2. The characteristics for Vermilionum are pungent and sweet, has warm temperature, and enters heart, lung, and stomach meridians. 3. The efficacies of Vermilionum are to eliminate parasites, expels phlegm and dampness, and sedate heart and calm spirit. 4. Long-term intake make results in mercuric toxication. 5. Further researches on the administration methods and dosages are required to reduce side effects.

  Abstract Objective : The purpose of this study is to show that there was a significant result in prescribing Herb remedy and Korean-Bee-Venom acupuncture and acupuncture & moxibustion therapy to Urinary incontinence patients due to Neurologic Bladder caused by Cauda equina syndrome after having an vertebrae lumbale operation. Method : The methods used in this study was observe the patient's subjective improvement, valuation of the bladder function and the change of the sensibility drop when Herb remedy and Korean-Bee-Venom acupuncture and acupuncture was applied. Results : When acupuncture and Korean-Bee-Venom acupuncture was both applied the function of Bladder changed from score 10 to 0 and the Grade of Urinary Incontinence changed from Grade III to 0 also with the sensibility drop. Conclusion : The results show that when using Umnungchon(SP9), Yangnungchon (GB34), Taedon(LR1), Kokkol(CV2) there was an effect to some degree to the Urinary incontinence patients but when Korean-Bee-Venom was acupunctured to Kwanwon(CV4) and Kihae(CV6) the effect increased. Further studies and examples for evidence are required.

  Abstract The purpose of this study is to evaluate the clinical effect of Hwangryunhaedok-tang Herbal-Acupuncture. Hwangryunhaedok-tang is used in all heating diseases. Chest Heating Sensation is a unique concept in Oriental Medicine. So we applied Hwangryunhaedok-tang Herbal-Acupuncture to treat the Chest Heating Sensation. We used DITI(Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging) to estimate the temperatures of chest surface for the outcome assessment. We came to know that the chest surface temperatures were all reduced in both cases after Herbal-Acupuncture treatment. The reduced average temperature was in case 1 and in case 2. The above result indicates that Hwungryunhaedok-tang Herbal-Acupuncture treatment has an effect on Chest Heating Sensation, thus continuous Hwangryunhaedok-tang Herbal-Acupuncture study will be needed for more clinical applications

  Abstract Objective : This study was carried out to investigate the progress of bilateral simultaneous facial palsy and the effect of Hominis Placenta herbal-acupunture and the other oriental medical therapies. Method : We used two methods to research the progress of disease. 1. Diagnosis - Facial muscle test, Taste test, Hearing test, Photographies, Lab-finding 2. Treatment - Acupuncture, Herbal-acupuncture, Electroacupuncture, Herb-med Edema rate, Pain endurance, WBC, Hemoglobin, Platelet, Total protein, Albumin, Globulin, RA factor, CRP Results : The onset of Rt. facial palsy was earlier than Lt. facial palsy 3days. The reaction on the treatment of Rt. facial palsy was more dull than Lt. facial palsy. In terms of treatment period, Rt. facial palsy was very longer than Lt. facial palsy. Conclusion : According to the above results, we discoveried that Hominis Placenta herbal-acupunture and the other oriental medical therapies had good influence on the bilateral simultaneous facial palsy. In the future, we should endeavor to know influence between Rt. and Lt. face in case of bilateral simultaneous Bell's palsy.

  Abstract Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Bee Venom on the lipopolysaccharide, sodium nitroprusside and hydrogen peroxide induced expression phospholipase and calcium concentration in RAW 264.7 cells, a murine macrophage cell line. Method : The expression of phospholipase was determined by western blotting with corresponding antibodies, and the generation of intracellular calcium concentration was investigated by delta scan system in RAW 264.7 cells. Results : 1. Compared with control, expressions of lipopolysaccharide-induced phospholipase were decreased significantly by of bee venom and decreased by 0.5, of bee venom. 2. Compared with control, expressions of sodium nitroprusside-induced phospholipase were decreased significantly by of bee venom but increased by 0.5, of bee venom. 3. Compared with control, expressions of hydrogen peroxide-induced phospholipase were decreased significaltly by of bee venom and decreased by of bee venom but increased by of bee venom. 4. Compared with control, lipopolysaccharide, sodium nitroprusside and hydrogen peroxide- induced intracellular calcium concentrations were decreased by 0.5, 1, of bee venom and by indomethacin

  Abstract Results : 1. The most important concept of IMS is chronic pain illness that may develop into hypersensitivity of the nerves, i.e., neuropathy. 2. Muscle shortening may be triggered by stress, including emotional, physical, external, and internal factors. 3. Muscle shortening increases mechanical tension on the muscles as well as inducing abrasion of the tissues by stretching ligament, tendon, cartilage, bone, and etc. 4. Pain from neuropathy is normally manifested on musculoskeletal system and spasm or shortening play as the central axis of this pain. 5. Neuropathy often appears at the nerve root level and the most important decisive factor of radiculopathy is muscle shortening. 6. Spondylosis is the most common cause of radiculopathy. 7. The most significant treatment principle of IMS is to relieve muscle shortening and remove stimulating determinant from the vertebrae. 8. Dry needling is quite effective for treating various pain caused by muscle shortening.
