 Abstract Objectives : This study was carried out to identified the effects of distilled cultivated wild ginseng pharmacopuncture to the obesity. Methods : Cultivated wild ginseng pharmacopuncture was administered on the points of chung-wan(CV12), $\small{Ch$(ST25), and Chok-samni(ST36) on lowering lipid and oxidative capacity in biochemical and molecular biological aspects were investigated in obese rats fed with high fat diet. Results : 1. The contents of plasma $\small{{\beta}-lipoprotein}$ showed a tendency to decrease in the pharmacopuncture groups compared to the control group. In the pharmacopuncture groups, the values of ST25 and ST36 pharmacopuncture groups showed lower value. 2. The contents of plasma free fatty acids showed a tendency to decrease in pharmacopuncture groups compared to the control group. However, in the pharmacopuncture groups, the values were not significantly different. 3. Plasma triglyceride and glucose showed lower value in the ST25 pharmacopuncture groups compared with the other groups. 4. The activity of AST showed a tendency to decrease in the pharmacopuncture groups. However, the activity of ALT was not significantly different in all the treatment groups. 5. Plasma total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol showed lower value in the ST25 and ST36 pharmacopuncture groups and HDL-cholesterol showed higher value in the CV12 pharmacopuncture groups than that of the other treatment groups. 6. Liver total cholesterol values didn't show significant difference in all the treatment groups, and triglyceride showed lower value in the pharmacopuncture groups. 7. The contents of plasma TEARS showed lower value in the ST25 pharmacopuncture group and contents of liver TBARS showed a tendency to decrease in the pharmacopuncture groups. However these values didn't show significant difference in the pharmaco puncture groups. 8. Liver super oxide dismutase activity showed higher value in the ST25 and ST36 pharmacopuncture groups, and the value of liver glutathione peroxidase and catalase activity showed a tendency to increase in the pharmacopuncture groups. However, these values showed no significant difference in the pharmacopuncture groups. 9. Expression of apo-B and E mRNA in liver cells was lower in the ST25 pharmacopuncture group than that of the other treatment groups. However, expression of $\small{TNF-{\alpha}}$ and leptin mRNA in adipose cell showed no difference among all the treatment groups. 10. ST25 pharmacopuncture group showed a good histological character of liver. It showed similar to that of normal group. However other treatment groups and control group showed slight vasodilation and slight fat accumulation. Conclusion : These results indicate that distilled cultivated wild ginseng pharmacopuncture suppressed adipose tissue mass and lipid peroxidation, and increased antioxidant capacity.

 Abstract Purpose : Bee Venom Acupuncture(BVA) is known to affect inflammation and immune system. This study examined the macroscopic, hormonal and immunological effects of BVA on rats with surgically induced endometriosis. Methods : Endometrial tissue was implanted in the serosal wall of the small intestine in rats. The rats were divided randomly into an experimental and control group. The experimental group was treated with BVA injection on kwanwon(CV4) three times per week, and the control group was given an oral dose of normal saline every day. 6 weeks later, the size of the ectopic uterine tissue was estimated, and the serum progesterone, estradiol and cytokine($\small{TNF-{\alpha}}$, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-l0) concentrations were analyzed. Results : The size of the ectopic uterine implants in the experimental group was much smaller than that in the control group. The estradiol, IL-2 concentrations were significantly lower and the IL-6, IL-I0 concentrations were significantly higher in the serum of the experimental group than in the control group, there was no significant difference in the concentration of the other cytokine. Conclusion : These results suggest that BVA is an effective treatment for endometriosis.

 Abstract Objectives : We performed this study in order to investigate the effects of Sedang-hwan(世糖丸) on the diabetes mellitus. Methods : We injected a vein with 65mg/kg of streptozotocin(STZ) on the rats. And then administered Sedang-hwan; 18.7mg/kg/day to sample groups and observed the weight and glucose level, insulin, C-peptide, triglyceride, albumin, T-protein, BUN(Blood Urea Nitrogen) and creatinine in blood. Results : 1. The sample groups showed a high suppressive effect of weight loss(P=0.002). 2. The sample groups' glucose level showed a effective in lowering level(P=0.001). 3. The sample groups showed a higher insulin level than control groups. 4. The sample groups showed a higher C-peptide level than control groups(P=0.001). 5. The sample groups' triglyceride level showed a effective in lowering level. 6. The sample groups showed a higher HDL-cholesterol level than control groups(P<0.001). 7. The sample groups showed a higher T-protein level than control groups(P=0.04). 8. The sample groups showed a higher albumin level than control groups(P<0.001). 9. The sample groups' creatinine level showed a effective in lowering level(P=0.04). 10. The sample groups' BUN level showed a effective in lowering level(P=0.03). Conclusions : Conclusively, Sedang-hwan was recognized to have decrease effect of serum glucose, triglyceride, creatinine, BUN of the diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin. It was suggested that Sedang-hwan can be used for effective diabetes mellitus medical treatment. It is also required to study further about detailed principles of blood-sugar dropping effect by Sedang-hwan, and recovery by diabetes mellitus.

 Abstract Objectives : This study was aimed at investigating liver protection mechanism of Moschus by inducing liver toxicity through $\small{CCl_4}$ in mice and evaluated histological and serological findings. Methods : Experiment groups was categorized into untreated normal group, $\small{CCl_4}$ treated control group, and orally administered Moschus experiment group. At the termination of experiment, gross examination of the liver as well as histological findings, and Total protein, Total bilirubin, Direct bilirubin SGOT, SGPT, and ALP contents in the serum were evaluated. Results : 1. For gross examination and histological findings, $\small{CCl_4}$ treated control group showed destroyed lobular structure, increased fibrosis, as well as hepatic cirrhosis. For the group treated with Moschus, the lobular structure suffered less damage, and showed lower level of fibrosis and liver cirrhosis compared to the control group. 2. For serum analysis, Total protein were significantly increased in the Moschus experiment group than the control group. 3. Total bilirubin didn't show significant differences between the two groups. but direct bilirubin was significantly increased in the Moschus experiment group than the control group. 4. SGOT, SGPT, were significantly decreased in the normal and Moschus experiment groups compared to the control group. 5. ALP was significantly decreased in the normal group compared to the control group, but Moschus experiment group didn't show significant differences compared to the control group. Conclusion : Taken together, Moschus can be effectively used for recovering the liver functions and further researches must be conducted to verify the efficacies of Moschus bile juice.

 Abstract Objectives : This paper aims to report the clinical effectiveness of acupuncture & herbal treatment on ptosis, which has no way to be treated but the operative method like a tarsectomy. Methods : This study was carried out, from February 2003 to December 2003, to the twenty patients who were diagnosed as an acquired ptosis and treated by acupuncture and herbal treatment in the department of Acupuncture & Moxibustion, Daejon University Oriental Hospital. The selected acupoints were hasamhwang(下三黃) in normal side, BL 2, BL 60(崑崙), BL 66(通谷), ST 41(解谿), ST 44(內處), LI 4(合谷), LI 5(陽谿), guhu(球後), emi(魚尾) in abnormal side. The method of acupuncture insertion for each point was neutral(平補平瀉). The treatment frequency was once a day. And all patients were administered the Bojungikkitanggamibang(補中益氣揚加味方), which is known to be able to rise up the Gi of spleen(脾氣). Result & Suggestion : The treatment result showed that excellent was 95%(19) and poor was 5%(1). Through this result, we can know that oriental medical treatment for ptosis is effective. But continuous study about oriental medical treatment for ptosis is needed hereafter.

 Abstract Objectives : This study planed to evaluate effect of oriental medicine therapy treatment method of dyspnea that happen from cancer of the pancreas patient who accompany Multiple metasis Methods : Patient complained dyspnoea during admission into dept. Of internal medicine, college of oriental medicine, Dong-eui Univ, was appealed patient treated by Oriental medicine therapy that is of use Herb Medication and Herbal -acupuncture Treatment being diagnosed in lung asthenia including deficiency of Eum and insufficiency of Gi of the lung(肺虛), the fire due to deficiency(虛火), and loving warfare of symptoms evaluated through VAS (visual analog scales). Results & Conclusion : Patient's difficulty in breathing symptoms took a favorable turn after treatment. This study means that Oriental medicine therapy that is difficulty in breathing symptoms that happen from patient surely has effectiveness.

 Abstract Objective : The purpose of this study is to estimate the effects of spiral taping treatment on temporomandibular disorder. Methods : 22 temporomandibular disorder patients were treated with spiral taping, and no other treatments such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, herbal acupuncture, and chiropractic therapy were added. We evaluated the improvement by temporomandibular pain and mouth opening range. Results : 11 patients felt no pain or inconvenience of daily life and 4 patients showed improvement of pain or symptom after 1 month of spiral taping theraphy. 3 patients had normal opening size of mouth and convenience of daily life, and 2 patient showed improvement of opening size of mouth as 35mm-40mm after 1 month of spiral taping theraphy. Conclusion : These results suggest spiral taping treatments contribute to the improvement of temporomandibular disorders. Further study is needed for the confirmation of this effect of spiral taping treatments on temporomandibular disorders.

 Abstract Objective : This research was carried out for the development of medicine for vitiligo treatment and focused on the effect of Hominis Placenta extract on Melanin synthesis of B16 melanoma cells. Methods : Acitivity of tyrosinase playing a vital role in synthesis of Melanin and the quantity of Melanin, which is the final product in cultured B16 melanoma cells, effects of Hominis Placenta extract were measured. Results: The results indicated that Hominis Placenta extract increased both the amount of Melanin and the activity of tyrosinase according to the concentration, and they also supported by western blot analysis. Conclusion : The results suggests that Hominis Placenta extract has an advantageous effect on the promotion of Melanin synthesis and will contribute to the development of vitiligo treatment through further related studies.

This study examined the macroscopic, hormonal and immunological effects of Ouhyul Herbal Acupuncture(OHA) therapy on rats with experimentally induced endometriosis. Methods : Endometrial tissue was implanted in the serosal wall of the small intestine in rats. The rats were divided randomly into an experimental group and control group. The experimental group was treated with OHA on Kwanwon(CV4) three times per week and the control group was administrated normal saline every day. After 6 weeks, the size of the ectopic uterine tissue was estimated and the serum progesterone, estradiol and cytokines($\small{TNF-{\alpha}}$, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-l0) concentrations were analyzed. Results : The size of the ectopic uterine tissue in the experimantal group was slightly smaller than that in the control group. The estradiol, IL-4 and IL-6 concentrations were significantly lower and the IL-l0 concentration was significantly higher in the serum of the experimental group than in the control group. There was no significant difference in the concentrations of the other cytokines. Conclusion : These results suggest that OHA might be an effective method for treating dometriosis.

 Abstract Objectives : This study was to investigate the effect of National Health Services for obesity patients by oriental medical treatment. Methods : We analyzed 46 obesity patient joined to Oriental Treatment for Obesity in Sunchang Medical Center with BCA(bocy component analysis), after we had treated them with our obesity program. We analyzed changes of BCA during before and after treatment, and analyzed items in BCA are weight(kg), amount of muscle(kg), amount of body fat(kg), body fat rate(%) and BMI(body mass index). Results : 1. Weight, amount of muscle, amount of body fat, body fat rate and BMI were decreased in after treatment, but they didn't have statistical significance. 2. This studies suggest oriental treatment for obesity may be an effective overweigh group(BMI $\small{25{\sim}30}$), because it had statistical significance(P<0.05). 3. It appears that oriental treatment for obesity have an effect in National Health Services

 Abstract Objective : The purpose of this study is to estimate the effects of spiral taping treatment on low back pain. Methods : 420 low back pain patients were treated with spiral taping or spiral taping plus herbal medicine, and no other treatments such as acupuncture, herbal acupuncture, and chiropractic therapy were added. We evaluated the improvement by physical examination and pain. Results : 364 patients felt no pain or inconvenience of daily life and 43 patients showed improvement of pain or symptom after 1 month of treatment. 13 patients showed same pain with before treatment. Conclusion : These results suggest spiral taping treatments contribute to the improvement of low back pain. Further study is needed for the confirmation of this effect of spiral taping treatments on low back pain.

 Abstract Objective : This study is to report the effect of Scolopendrid Herbal Acupuncture on a patient suffering from the pain of Hip Adductors after operation for hip fracture. Methods : First we had treated the patient with the pain of Hip Adductors by acupuncture and herb medication(活絡湯), but we did't get remarkable improvement in condition of patient. So we added to treat his pain site with Scolopendrid Herbal Acupuncture. And then we evaluated his pain by VAS(Visual Analog Scale). Results : 1. Scolopendrid Herbal Acupuncture had a very excellent effect on relieving pain and inflammation of Hip Adductors after operation for hip fracture. 2. It appears that Scolopendrid Herbal Acupuncture is very effective against Trigger Point of muscle and pain site fixed.

 Abstract Objective : The purpose of the study was to observe local reactions of BV and BVP skin test, and to compare those between BV and BVP. Methods : We performed BV or BVP Skin test to 42 patients, and then we measured wheal and erytherma on skin test area by digital caliper after 15 minutes. Results : 1. In BV Skin test, the mean size of wheals was $\small{l0.l0{\pm}0.78mm}$ and the mean size of erythermas was $\small{29.85{\pm}6.23mm}$. 2. In BVP Skin test, the mean size of wheals was $\small{7.05{\pm}3.20mm}$ and the mean size of erythermas was $\small{19.58{\pm}7.62mm}$. 3. The local reactions of BVP Skin test decreased significantly(P<0.01) than those of BV skin test.

 Abstract Objective : This experiment was conducted to evaluate inhibitory effects against hepatic metastasis by cultivated wild ginseng Herbal Acupuncture. Methods : Colon26-L5 carcinoma cells were injected through hepatic portal vein to induce hepatic metastatic cancer. After treated cultivated wild ginseng Herbal Acupuncture and investigated various kinds of cytokine level using cytokine chip. Results : 1. Mice treated with cultivated wild ginseng Herbal Acupuncture reduced the level of $\small{IL-l{\alpha}}$, $\small{IL-{\beta}}$, and $\small{TNF-{\alpha}}$ compared to the control group. 2. Mice treated with cultivated wild ginseng Herbal Acupuncture was not showed significant change in the level of IL-4, IL-l0, IL-12 and $\small{INF-{\gamma}}$ compared to the control group. 3. Observing the level of various kinds of cytokine, cultivated wild ginseng Herbal Acupuncture was suppressed pro-inflammatory cytokine. These findings indicate cultivated wild ginseng Herbal Acupuncture is possible to use the inflammatory disease and futher studies carry out for the explanation of anticancer mechanism.

 Abstract Objective : This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of Acupuncture, Bee Venom Acupuncture (BVA) and Bee Venom Herbal Acupuncture (BVHA) on post-stroke hemiplegic shoulder pain. Methods : 30 patients were randomly allocated into Acupuncture group, BVA group and BVHA group and was monitored weekly for 4 weeks; initial($\small{T_0}$), 1 week($\small{T_1}$), 2 weeks($\small{T_2}$), 3 weeks($\small{T_3}$) and 4 weeks($\small{T_4}$). Results : Visual analogue scale of shoulder pain showed significant decrease in BVA and BVHA groups compared to the Acupuncture group at T4 evaluation. Painless passive ROM of shoulder external rotation and Fugl-Meyer Motor Assessment of Upper Limb motor function showed significant increase in all groups. Modified Ashworth scale of the spasticity of upper limb showed no differences between the three groups. Conclusion : BVA & BVHA appears to be an effective in treating post-stroke hemiplegic shoulder pain. Further clinical studies must be done to obtain more concrete findings.

 Abstract Objectives : This study was conducted to carry out quantitative evaluation and safety of Bee Venom Acupuncture. Methods : Content analysis was done using HPLC, measurement of $\small{LD_{50}}$, and histological observations were made on the skin and muscles. Results : 1. According to HPLC analysis, each BVA-1 contained approximately $\small{0.36{\mu}g}$, and BVA-2 contained approximately $\small{0.54{\mu}g}$. But the volume of coating was so minute, slight difference exists between each needle. 2. LD50 of mouse with BVA-1 was 16 counts and this is equivalent to 640 needles/kg, making Bee Venom Acupuncture safe treatment apparatus. 3. Regardless of the number of needles, there was no sign of blood stasis or inflammation detected on the skin and muscle tissues. Conclusion : Above results indicate that the Bee Venom Acupuncture can complement shortcomings of syringe usage as a part of Oriental medicine treatment, but extensive researches should be done for further verification.
